Print Anywhere Service Agreement

With each Print Anywhere purchase, you are granted a standard print anywhere license to print unlimited copies of the purchased design at home or at a commercial print shop like Target, Staples, Kinkos, Wallgreens etc.

This license is for personal use and no commercial use of this design or design alternation, extraction or modification is allowed.

Please see our full Terms of Use http://www.purpletrail.com/tou for full details.

To get started, design your card. We have flat cards, postcards, and folded cards. You can choose to print cards in the following sizes: 3.5×5, 4×6, 5.25×5.25, 5×7 and 5.5×8.5. Sizes are available in landscape or portrait orientation. We also offer tri-fold and quad-fold styles as well as circle cards. Tri-fold and quad-fold designs are only available in 4 x 5.5 and circle cards are available in 5.25 size. We have thousands of designs to choose from and personalize, or you can create your own from scratch.

Once you have designed your card, simply complete the print at home purchase. If you are a PurpleTrail club member, you are given a certain number of free print at home downloads. The number varies based on which membership level you have. You can also choose to pay per download. The cost is $9.95 for each card design. We also offer print at home packages that allow you to purchase multiple print at home download credits at a lower “per download” cost. The unused credits will be saved within your account and you can use them at a later time.

Once you complete payment, you will immediately be able to download your design in either a high resolution PDF or JPG format.

If you created a postcard design, your PDF with be either 2 or 3 pages – depending on the card style you selected. The first page is the Print at Home Purchase Agreement and does not need to be printed. You can tell your printer to print only the pages you want.

The size of each page of the PDF will correspond to the size of card that you ordered. For example, if you order a 4×6 postcard, the PDF pages will be 4×6. This makes it easy to print on 4×6 size paper or cardstock. You can also easily print your postcard on larger size paper and cut it down to size.

If you created a folded card design, your pdf will be 3 pages. The first page will be the Print at Home Purchase Agreement and then the front and back of the card will be on one page, and the inside of the card will be on the other. This makes it easy to print on standard 8.5×11 inch paper or cardstock. Simply print one page of the pdf on one side of the piece of paper, and then print the other page of the pdf on the backside of the paper. Once it is printed, simply trim the paper to size and fold the paper in half.

Printing the JPG images is easy too. Once the image is saved, click to open JPG file. Your image will open in the default photo program that your computer has (ex. Windows Photo Viewer). In that program, select to print the image.

In the print window, select the print properties for the orientation, number of copies, paper type, paper size and print quality (at least 300 dpi if available).

What is the quality of the PDF and JPG download?

Both the PDF and JPG images that you receive will be in full high resolution of 300 dpi.

What if I just want to Print at Home?

Our Print at Home option starts at just 9.95 per download. It is designed for personal use and only get the PDF file of your card to print on your home printer.

First, please make sure that your email address and password are correct when logging in.
Secondly, if you have not confirmed your PurpleTrail account, you must do so before logging in. Try to log into your account using the email address you signed up with. You should then see an option to send the confirmation email again. Please be patient, as sometimes email services take a little while to deliver the emails. If you are still having trouble, please contact customer support and we can help activate your account.

The design I purchased looks different than the one I created?

Our system for converting your online design into a print at home high resolution version is complex, and in some rare cases the high resolution version can be slightly different than what you ordered. If this happens, please contact customer support and tell us your PurpleTrail email address and/or order number. We can quickly get the problem fixed and get you on your way printing your cards.

What kind of paper should I use for printing cards at home?

There are a lot of different options for paper when printing your cards on your home printer. Here are some good choices that work well with most printers:

Bright white cardstock:

White works the best, as colored cardstock tends to show through and make text and backgrounds harder to see. Cardstock can be purchased at paper and craft stores, and even some office supply stores. It usually comes in 8 ½ x 11 sheets that work well for most printers. Just be sure to check the paper thickness and textures that you printer allows. Many cannot handle cardstock that is too thick, and smooth texture often works better as well.

Photo Paper:

If you have a photo printer, photo paper works well for printing flat cards. In almost all cases you can only print on one side of the paper, so it does not work well for postcards. In addition, it does not fold well. The upside is that photo paper comes in standard sizes of 4×6 and 5×7 and works well in injet and photo printers.

Avery Card Products:

Avery makes many different papers and cards that work well and often come with matching envelopes. For folded cards, they are also already scored for folding. The two downsides are that the sizes are limited and the paper is thin. Here are some choices that other customers have used:

For Postcards:

Avery Dennison 8386 4 X 6 Matte White Postcards for Ink Jet Printers

Avery® Inkjet-Compatible Postcards, 4 x 6, Two Per Sheet, 100 Cards per Pack

For Folded Cards:

Avery/American Greetings Half Fold Blank Cards

Avery 3378 Personal creations textured heavyweight 1/2-fold cards/envs, 5-1/2×8-1/2

Important note for all at home printing: Most home laser and inkjet printers cannot print to the edge of the paper. They leave a white border around the outside of the printed card. This is a limitation of these types of printers and cannot be fixed by changing printer settings, etc. After the cards is printed, the white border can be trimmed. The exception to this is home photo printers that specifically indicate they can print to the edge.

Right click on the image and select “Save image as”. This will allow you to save the image to a location on your computer like your desktop or your photos folder.

Then send your image to the printer that you are using.

Important note for all at home printing: Most home laser and inkjet printers cannot print to the edge of the paper. They leave a white border around the outside of the printed card. This is a limitation of these types of printers and cannot be fixed by changing printer settings, etc. After the card is printed the white border can be trimmed. The exception to this is home printers that specifically indicate they can print to the edge, like some photo inkjet printers.

Click to download the PDF file from your PurpleTrail account or order receipt. It will open in Adobe Reader.

To print your pdf, start by clicking the print icon in the upper left corner.

This will open the print window where you can select your printer and printer settings. Please note that the options available on the printer window will vary based on the type/model of your printer.

The first step is to select the printer you would like to use. Then click on the “Properties” button to select the orientation, number of copies, paper type and paper source.

Be sure to specify the paper size, paper type, printer paper tray/feeder, and high quality printing (at least 300 dpi if available).

Once you have specified all the properties settings, check the page handling settings on the print window.

The settings for this area will depend on the PDF size and the size of paper you are using. Here are some examples:

If you want the card to fill the entire paper you have selected (ex. 4×6 card printing on 4×6 paper), change the page scaling to “Fit to printable area”. The card design will then fill the entire piece of paper.

If your card is smaller than the paper you are printing on (ex. 5×7 printing on 8 ½ x 11 paper), then leave the page scaling set to “None”. Once your card has printed, the paper can be trimmed to size.
