Independence Day was first celebrated in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776.
Independence Day commemorates the formal adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
On July 4th, 1884 the Statue of Liberty was given to the United States as a gift.
The iron framework of the Statue of Liberty was devised by French engineer Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, who also built the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The US flag has 13 stripes representing the original 13 colonies (7 red and 6 white). In the upper left corner is a navy blue field with 50 white stars that represents the states.
