From the Land of Far, Far Away, Shrek the Final Chapter is about to hit the big screen. Always a favorite movie with its sequels, this Final Chapter may again bring a rush of excitement over enjoying a Shrek birthday party ordered up by Shrek and Donkey. With such a clever group of characters, it is easy to put together a party with this gang as the inspiration.
- Post a sign on your front door welcoming guests to “Land of Far, Far Away!”
- The colors should include various shades of green; the swampy green and/or lime green would be perfect. Shades of yellow would also be good to offset the green. Use these colors for the balloons, streamers, and tableware.
- Shrek doesn’t often eat with utensils; so if you don’t mind a little mess, don’t set any utensils out on the table.
- For the table centerpiece, make a carriage out of a clove of garlic – just like the one that Shrek and Fiona ride in.
- Have the kids make donkey and ogre ears when they first arrive to the party and then wear them. Using green and gray construction paper cut out the paper into ear shapes, have the kids decorate the ears using markers, crayons, glitter, and then attach them to headbands using a glue gun.
- Have a Balloon Toss, using more than one green balloon or a special Shrek Mylar balloon, have the kids keep the balloons in the air without touching the ground. You can play this either with the whole group together or in teams.
- It’s a given, Pin the Tail on the Donkey!
- Have fun with Gingerbread Men. Gingy is so popular in the story. Instead of having the kids frost and decorate the cookies, have pieces of gingerbread cookies laid out and ready to be assembled. Have the kids put Gingy together first and then decorate. A perfect party treat.
- For goodies, send the kids home with green goop, Shrek notepads, pencils, erasers, stickers, cups, green candies, trading cards, candy jewels, etc.
Have a Shrek awesome time!
