Change is good. Really!! A few years back you resented the mobile, now you can’t live with out it. The way you took and stored pictures moved from film rolls to digital to online sites like flickr in no time. Don’t even get me started on the iPhone. You resented the touch screen now you think that’s the only way phones ought to be built. To keep the blackberry fans happy I will mention the track ball as signs of good change. I could go on and on, but, I would be digressing.

Back to topic at hand.  Change the way you invite.  So how has the way you sent out invites changed over the last 10 years? Ok some of you started using online invites at evite. But was that a good change? Sure it was convenient but do you really enjoy picking the boring clip art for your online invites or sending invites loaded with ads that sell mortgages or ask your guests to watch their weight. Talk about being politically incorrect!

Online Invites

Some were braver and tried sending mobile text (SMS). Sure that worked great for a reminder but not every one was very happy receiving texts. Some of them did not even know they had received one! They had never used mobile text before :-)

Some enterprising folks tried to make it easy for making all those phone calls to invite formally or even make those last minute announcements before the event. Just record your message, add some music or effects to it and the auto dialer shall make the calls to every one you need to at a time that is convenient to them.

And then came the age of facebook and Myspace. It was easy, click on a bunch of friends, type the message and send. Great! Fast and easy! Unfortunately also lazy. The guests want to feel special. They want to see that you took effort to invite them. That it is important for you that they come. Works great for the lets meet up over beer but not sure thats what I will recommend for birthday invites or thanksgiving dinners.

So how should you invite? I think its not as much about email vs print or sms vs call or even facebook vs no facebook. I think all of them have a place in your invitation and are important to use to reach out to your guests. But to stand out as a host and to do a good job of inviting guests you need to use a combination of these.

At PupleTrail.com, we have been working hard at making that possible. On PurpleTrail.com you can send invitations using stylish emails, print at home, or opt for PurpleTrail Print.  Guests can RSVP easily from the emails, from the website or the mobile and even from their phones.  All of this comes with great reliability and tracking of your messages. Making it easy for you to manage your guest list.
