In between summer party invitations and summer camp, summer fun can get dampened by a little (or a lot) of rain.  It’s good to have a good bag of tricks to pull from to keep the kids busy.  Instead of turning on the TV, help them turn on their creativity.  We’ve put together some great indoor activities and crafts that should keep them entertained.

Build A Fort

Simple right? But if you haven’t done it in a while, you’ll soon remember how fun it can be.  A tip for a very secure roof; take a fitted sheet and stretch it out over the backs of 4 chairs. You can spread the chairs far enough apart to pull the fabric taught.  It becomes the perfect fort roof that stays put!  Bring in pillows, snacks, books or what ever toys you like.  Hours will go by before you know it!

Paper Bag Puppets

Just use plain old brown paper lunch sacks and decorate them with yarn, googlie eyes, crayons, stickers, whatever you like! Then put on a puppet show for friends and family.  Hiding behind the back of the couch makes for great puppet stage.

Origami

Origami is a beautiful Japanese paper folding art.  You can make boxes, pinwheels, cranes, and more! Go to your local library and check out a book on origami.  You can also visit your local craft store for oragami kits and paper.  You can create beautiful party decorations for your next gathering!

Decorate An Umbrella

Create a beautiful umbrella for those rainy days!  Get a light colored umbrella and some fabric pens.  Spread out newspaper on the floor and open up the umbrella.  Draw your design.  Then let it dry for one day before using it.

Sardines

If you’ve got a houseful of kids, organize a game of sardines.  Sardines is like hide and seek with a twist.  You select one person to hide initially and the rest of the group goes to look for them.  Once one person finds the hider, they join them and stay hidden. One by one the seekers pack in, like sardines to the hiding spot.  The last person to find everyone gets to be the hider next round.

The sun will come out again eventually.  Until it does, enjoy these fun craft and activity ideas. Check out more kids games and kids craft ideas too.
