Most of us are notorious for making New Year’s resolutions that we don’t keep. At your New Year’s Eve party this year, why not incorporate ways to help people keep their resolutions. One of the biggest reasons we fail to keep our resolutions is because no one but ourselves keeps us accountable. Here are some suggestions on how to help you and your friends keep those New Year’s resolutions this year.
Make a burn list. A list of all the things that you don’t want to keep in the new year (illness, bad attitude, bad job, etc.) Then gather all the lists of your guests and burn them outside (in a fireproof container, a safe distance from the house with dousing water nearby).
A group list – to post somewhere viewable to all. You can make a group on facebook, or create a blog where you update how you are doing on some of your resolutions and others can encourage you along the way.
Time capsule- to be opened again in six months to see how you are all doing. Plan a get together for six months down the road. Then you can all have not only a great excuse to see each other but also have a way to be accountable for your resolutions.
Make your list a little shorter. Instead of attacking ten things, try two or three really important things. You can always add to the list but then you are likely to feel like achieving these goals is more attainable and less overwhelming.
Assign a resolution buddy. This is great for groups that know each other pretty well. Pair up and agree to meet every so often to see how each of you is doing on your resolutions. Agree to be a support system to one another and help with accountability.
Good luck this year. We know you can do it! Happy New Year!
