Who doesn’t love a parade?  This holiday send out July 4th party invitations for a fun neighborhood parade.  You can get everyone involved, young and old.  Our party experts have put together some neighborhood parade planning tips to help you plan a perfect parade.

  • You’ll want to start by letting everyone in the neighborhood know you are planning a parade.  You can post a flyer by the mail boxes or if your housing association has a website, post the parade information.
  • If you have most of your neighbor’s email addresses consider sending out online  July 4th party  invitations.  It will make keeping track of who’d like to participate in the parade much easier.
  • Designate which street the parade will be held on.  If you can’t block off your street, hold the parade on the sidewalk.  Those who will not actually be in the parade can set up lawn chairs and sit on the sidelines to cheer on participants.

  • Encourage participants to decorate either their, bikes, wagons, trikes or even themselves in patriotic style.  Balloons, streamers, facepaint, the more the better!  If you have musical neighbors, encourage them to play their instrument in the parade.
  • Get elderly neighbors involved by asking them to act as parade judges.  Set up chairs for them in a shady area.  Create categories for them to judge like “best patriotic costume”, ” most creative float”, “most balloons used” etc. Have them hand out prizes at the end of the parade like bubbles, water guns, or ice cream coupons.
  • Have the parade participants gather about a half an hour before the start time so they can line up.  Be sure to get a portable CD player so you can play music during the parade.
  • Elect a parent or older child to act as Grand Marshall of the parade so they can lead the children through the designated parade area.  You might want to scatter parents within the parade and also have one follow at the end just to help any little ones from going astray.
  • At the end of the parade, have the participants gather around the judges to be awarded their prizes.  Consider make participant ribbons or treat bags for everyone to take home.
