Then with just a little planning, you can create a fun filled holiday to enjoy with all your neighborhood friends. Check out what your party experts suggest to help you get started.

- Start by checking with your city to see if you need a special permit to block of the street or to light fireworks in your neighborhood. If you live in a condo or apartment complex, check with the board director or apartment manager. You don’t want to create a party that will get shut down!
- Next, round up a few neighbors to head the planning committee. Designate who will be in charge of what. Create a flyer to post on mailboxes or in a community area. Some homeowners associations have websites so contact your president about posting the event on the site.
- If you have most of your neighbor’s email addresses, use PurpleTrail online July 4th party invitations to let everyone know about the event. You’ll want to give people an opportunity to sign up for what they would like to contribute to the event.
- Designate grillers, side dishes, salads, drinks, kids game organizers, fireworks display etc. With PurpleTrail online invitations, you can create bring a long lists and incorporate a message board to communicate with all the invitees.
- Decide if you want to have the food in one central location or in different stations. You could have a grilling station, a sides and salads station, a drinks station and of course a dessert station!
- The people (person) who volunteer to create kids games play a very important role. You’ll want to keep kids of all ages entertained so they aren’t left to their own devices. If you have a neighborhood park, consider a water balloon fight or relay races.
- Consider having a neighborhood parade! The kids will love getting to decorate their bikes and wagons. Read more on planning a neighborhood 4th of July parade.
- If you are unable to light fireworks in your neighborhood, use firework alternatives. Use firecrackers, sparklers or smoke bombs instead.

I am feeling inspired to put a block party together for our neighborhood. We just moved in and it would be a great way to really get to know everyone. Thanks for the great suggestions!
- by MaureenWe did this with our neighbors last year and it was a lot of fun. A safe and fun way to celebrate the 4th!
- by LucyI do a neighborhood party every year for 3 years now and we all pitch in and rent a bouncehouse and obstacle course. The kids love it!! Adults can also get in on the fun. We also have water balloons, ladder ball, bocce ball, badmitten, and whatever else someone has to play. We have it in our yard with food inside. We have everyone sign up to bring stuff so not one person it stuck with the cost and then at night we have a fire pit and make smores. It’s sooooo much fun and the kids love it at all ages!!
