I love your info, but it is important to point out two things: “Dieciseis de Septiembre” means Sept 16, not 15. Mexicans celebrate both days. Secondly, and more important, is the fact that 5 de Mayo is a lot bigger in the US than it is in Mexico (I grew up near Puebla and it is a bigger deal in the US). Mexicans who were born and raised in Mexico usually find this holiday a little conflicting in the US, because we feel stereotyped and a bit insulted that people do not know about history and we get portrayed as Speedy Gonzales’ clones. Just like some native-born Irish get annoyed with the way St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated here. So, thanks for posting this important piece of info

Great! But, why would would El Dieciseis de Septiembre be celebrated on the 15th? It’s the 16th. Think that’s a typo. It’s also called El Grito. But thanks for the info!
