go back to mobile history and find that mardi gras is about an old indian chief who is buried in downtown cementary[which is closed during holiday]this was during the spanish reign of the city.

The first American celebration of Mardi Gras was NOT on the Mississippi River, but up river from Mobile, AL. They were celebrating before New Orleans was even a town.
