Summer is finally here and it is time to party! Whether you are having a graduation party, a birthday party, wedding shower or anniversary party, a luau party theme is always a hit. Erin from our design team put together this tiki time luau party inspiration board to help you create an amazing luau party.
Set the tone for your luau with these tiki themed luau party invitations. The tropical blue, orange and pink colors are the perfect complement to the striking tiki figure. The bamboo and palm leaf accents keep the tropical theme going.
Food. You can decide how authentic you wish to make your luau spread. Serving a , blend of Hawaiian, Polynesian, and Asian is a great way to incorporate the best of luau food dishes. Here are some of our favorite Luau foods.
Kalua Pua’a- (Roast Pork)
Shoyu chicken- (Hawaiian style teriyaki chicken)
Baked Mahi Mahi
Lau Lau- (fish, chicken, or pork wrapped in taro leaves and steamed)
Lomilomi Salmon or Tuna – (raw, diced salted salmon mixed with maui onions, and tomato)
Poke- (salted soy sauce marinated tuna with onion, seaweed, sesame oil, crushed roasted candlenut, and chopped chili pepper)
Baked Sweet Potato
Macadamia Nut Coconut Cake
Haupia – (stiff coconut pudding)
Cupcakes and cookies with Hawiian luau theme touches.
Chi Chi – a vodka pina colada
Decor. Choose bright tropical colors. Bold hues of orange, pink, green, yellow, and blue can be carried in a variety of decorations. Palm and banana leaves make great accents to the buffet table. Bright hibiscus blooms, in vases make delightful center pieces. Make sure each guest gets a lei as they arrive welcoming them to the luau. Add tiki figures to the table for tribal look.
- For the adults, have a hula contest. Before your luau. YouTube some quick how to hula videos and give guests a short tutorial before the contest. Set a panel of judges to choose the best hula dancer of the night!
- What would , luau be without a limbo contest, how low can you go?
- For the little kids, if you re not at a beach, fill a couple kiddie , pools with sand and bury treasure (figurines, coins, etc.) give them each a shovel and a bucket and let them dig for treasure.
- Another fun game is to have goofy tourist relay. Gather up black knee socks, sandals, a loud Hawaiian print shirt, sunglasses, camera strap, fanny pack, and hat for each team. Divide into teams then divide each team into two sets. Each set should stationed across from each other with a decent distance between them. Each person has to put on all the gear and run to their teammates, remove the gear and tag the next person. That person then gears up and runs back to the other side continuing the relay until each person on the team completes the race. The team that successfully cycles through first wins!
