Valentine’s Day – the time of the year when love is celebrated the most. For a very long time, the holiday has been celebrated, and the special day will be upon us very soon once more. Here at PurpleTrail, our designers have been putting a lot of effort into the Valentine’s Day Card and Invitation designs on our site, and our Intern Yazmine has also been working on a special task.

As our intern, Yazmine had the project of creating her very own design set for Valentine’s Day. Her inspiration was heavily on blues and teal, with touches of pink and red. Lace was a main factor for the look, and the theme seemed to lean towards a sweet and whimsical-esque look, with parasols, hearts and clouds adorning the design; this collection is inevitably named “Pastel Valentine’s Day”.

Valentine’s Day is coming up and our design team has created some sweet Valentine’s Day cards and party invitations to help you celebrate the occasion.  Esther from our design teams share her favorite Valentine’s Day story as well as some of our lovely Valentine’s Day designs.

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays.  It may have something to do with my very first Valentine’s Day at school.  When I was in first grade, My mom had told me about how we would have a party in class for Valentine’s Day and I had spent a long time creating my Valentines for the other children.  I was very excited as visions of candy hearts and Smurf valentine cards filled my dreams the night before. The morning of Valentines Day I was giddy with anticipation and I hugged my mom before heading out the door.  Just then she noticed something on my legs… little red spots.  “You have chicken pox!” she said.

And just like that, my dreams for a perfect first grade valentine party were crushed.  I spent the next two weeks itchy and bored, recovering in my room.  One day, my mother came in with a box for me…my first grade had mailed all of my valentines to me!  It didn’t make up for missing the party, but it was wonderful to know that they were still thinking of me.  I still have all of those valentines in a scrapbook somewhere.

Our designers have created some fun new Valentine’s Cards and Valentine’s Party Invites for you to choose from.  Take a look!

    Valentine’s Day Cards

    1. Show off your wild style with this funky card.  With Zebra print on the background and fun type on the front, it will certainly stand out from the rest! There is room to place your photo on the back and write a greeting.

    2. Is sports your thing?  Give this unique and playful card this Valentine’s Day.   A blue background is accented with a stripe and various sports balls are highlighted.  This card is fun to receive and to give because of it’s circle shape!

    3. An adorable owl is center stage in this large, folded card.  You can place your picture on the front and a message on the inside.  Whooooo could resist this cute owl?

    PARTY INVITES

    1. This is a grungy, stylish party invite with a great texture as a border and a creative illustration on the front.  You are sure to have a rockin’ party when you send this invite!

    2.  This card is part invite, part greeting.  A clever, square card that looks like a game of tic-tac-toe and hugs and kisses!  A clean white background highlights the pink invite in the center.

    3. Here is an elegant 7X5, two sided card featuring an adorable stripe and classy martini glasses.  Simple and chic, your friends will love to get invited to this party!

We at PurpleTrail wish you lots of love and warmth this Valentine’s Day!  What is your most memorable Valentine’s Day?

This year Chinese New Year begins on January 23rd and the celebration lasts for fifteen days.  We asked our intern Yazmine to dig a little deeper and put together some facts about and traditions associated with this ancient holiday.

    ·         The Chinese New Year (Also known as the Spring Festival) is the most important holiday in China. It marks the end of winter, and the start of spring.

    ·         Each year is marked with either the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, or pig because in ancient times, it is said Buddha invited all animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Because each twelve of these animals had met with him, he named a year after each of them and deemed that any person born under the corresponding animal year would be born with some of that animal’s personality.

    ·         2012 is the year of the dragon – specifically being the water dragon. Dragons symbolize good fortune and intense power, and are seen as divine beasts.

    ·         Currently China follows the Gregorian calendar (The same calendar that we use here in the West), with the belief that January 1st marks the first day of the year – but still celebrate New Year at the same time as the Spring Festival as a matter of tradition.

    ·         The traditions of Chinese New Year started with a myth about a creature called a “Nian”, a monster that supposedly ate the crops, livestock, and children of a village. When the village found that loud noises and the color red scared the Nian, it became a tradition to mark the New Year as well as the triumph and success in scaring the Nian away – to the point where it never returned.

    ·         The main colors that appear during the time of the Spring Festival are red, yellow/gold, and occasionally black. In Chinese culture, red corresponds with good fortune, luck, and joy – and it is forbidden to wear the color in times of mourning and funerals, because it traditionally symbolizes happiness. Yellow is considered to be the most beautiful colors of all, and often takes the place of gold – it is worn by emperors and monks, and is thought to be the center of everything. In ancient times, black was regarded as heaven’s color, and was believed to be the king of all colors.  However, most of modern day China treats it how Westerners do; as a color for funerals or to be worn in everyday attire.

    ·         For New Year, elders give the younger children red envelopes which carry money, and other gifts are exchanged as well such as fruits (never pears), desserts like chocolate, cake, or biscuits and other small gifts.

We hope that everyone celebrating Chinese New Year has a happy, healthy and prosperous new year and that you find yourself surrounded by those that you love.

Hanukkah and Christmas have come and gone. The New Year is on it’s way!  How will you celebrate New Years?  Send out fabulous New Years invitations and invite guests with some style.  Our collection of New Years invitations has traditional designs as well as flashy designs with bold colors. Erin from our design teams highlights the season’s best.

    1. Purple and Blue Geometric New Years Invitation

This unique New Years invitation is sure to kick off the New Year right. Using bright blue and purple, and a geometric design gives this invitation a look like no other. By using shapes with outlines, you can create this repeat pattern and design it how you like. Just overlay shapes over one another, changing up the line quality and it gives you a fresh new style. Using a fun font for the headline is a great way to carry the theme through the invitation. Topping it off with simple lines of text information with white dots to break up the lines.

    2. Rays of the New Year New Years Invitation

This modern navy invitation is bold and directive. In our embellishment library we have lots to choose from, but we have a great selection of headline embellishments, which is where you will find the New Year 2012 font. Being able to use those as embellishments you can increase the size giving it this dramatic look. Everything is clean and simple, and its great to use the guides in PurpleTrail Design Center so everything looks crisp and organized.

    3. Colorful Confetti New Years Invitation

This colorful New Years invitation is a great invitation for all ages who may be throwing a party. Using bright polka dots that overlap one another gives it this fun confetti like feel, like its falling from the sky. To carry the dots through the invitation we used bold colors to create much larger ones for text to be put. It’s a simple layout, but has such a fun feeling to it. This invitation looks best when the overall information is simple and not too complex. Using two simple fonts interchangeably is a great idea to have some diversity but you don’t want to take away from the bright and colorful confetti.

    4. Purple disco party

This bright disco party is for the party animal going out on New Years Eve. Using the disco ball embellishment and overlapping some grunge texture is a great way to give it motion and style The font is unique to this invitation, using a few interchangeably. The headline is blocked out in a tight formation, making everything even then using a line barrier to separate it from the other information is a great way to create space in your invitation. Then using some texture in the bottom half to bring off the overall look and style of the invitation. If you use a small amount of texture on the front, don’t be afraid to make your card a two sided card and carry it over to the back.

    5. Popping Bubbly New Years Invitation

This double-sided circle card is great for a sophisticated New Years party. Using white linen over a gray background gives it a nice texture for the design to lay over. Using a wine bottle as the main focus on the front, we have captured bubbles coming out all over the design. Using simple circles with just the outline, and overlapping them slightly is a great way to create the look of floating bubbles. The font is simple and fits the sophisticated look of this invitation. On the reverse side, its best to use the same background style with linen, and always carry over the same color and font face so the invitation has a cohesiveness.

We hope your New Years celebration is fantastic. Happy New Year!
